Project Rustic Refined Reveal – Part 1

Every once in a while, a project comes along that feels like the perfect intersection of heart, craftsmanship, and vision — and Project Rustic Refined is exactly that.
This home was designed to feel grounded and elevated at the same time: rustic, but refined. Warm, but intentional. Collected, not trendy. From the very beginning, our goal was to create a house that felt like it had always been there — one that told a story through natural materials, thoughtful architecture, and layers of personal detail.
One of the unique challenges of this project was that the clients were inspired by a floor plan from a previous showcase home we designed. While they loved the spirit of that home, it was important that this one felt entirely their own. Through a highly detailed design process, we reimagined the materials, finishes, and architectural moments to create something familiar in feeling — but completely distinct in execution.
In Part One of this project reveal, I’m taking you through the main living areas of the home — the spaces where life happens every single day. Think welcoming, hardworking, and beautiful in equal measure. Let’s do it!

Exterior
The exterior of Project Rustic Refined sets the tone immediately. From the front, the home reads as a modern European cottage — timeless, grand, and quietly confident. The natural-colored brick paired with charcoal shutters and a dark roof gives the home a strong presence without feeling overwhelming.
Out back, the house opens up into a true entertaining oasis. A covered patio with a built-in fireplace creates an extension of the living space, while the charcoal-toned wood paneling adds depth and contrast to the exterior architecture. The custom pool and hot tub feature checkered tile detailing along the sides — one of those subtle design moments that feels both classic and special. It’s a home that looks just as beautiful pulling into the driveway as it does hosting friends on a summer evening.

Entry
The entryway was designed to make an immediate impression — without feeling formal or untouchable. A curved staircase anchors the space, complete with a custom black iron railing that adds architectural interest and contrast.
We layered in warmth with a plaid slipcovered chair, a round wooden side table topped with a soft-glow lamp, and a faux tree that brings in height and organic texture. Behind it all, artwork by Abbey Ratcliff creates a collected, personal moment that sets the tone for the rest of the home.
This space feels welcoming, layered, and intentional — exactly what an entry should be.

Living Room
The living room is one of the heartbeats of this home, and honestly, it’s hard not to love everything about it. Dramatic 12-foot ceilings are balanced by warm, earthy furnishings that keep the space grounded and cozy.
Reclaimed beams paired with the stone fireplace bring in that rustic foundation, while our signature KLD recessed built-ins — complete with custom reclaimed doors — add depth, function, and character. These built-ins are one of our favorite design elements, and we love how they frame the fireplace while still feeling architectural and timeless.
High-contrast dark wood tables, touches of leather, layered lighting, and storied objects give the room soul. And with three sets of French doors topped with transom windows, natural light pours in — creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection that’s perfect for entertaining. It’s elevated, inviting, and designed to be lived in.

Kitchen
The kitchen is truly the heart of the home — and this one works as hard as it looks good. From the leathered quartzite countertops to the plaster hood accented with reclaimed beam detailing, every element was thoughtfully chosen.
The Lacanche range is absolutely a star moment, but what really makes this kitchen special is its functionality. Custom storage solutions are everywhere: peg drawers for dishes, deep drawers for pots and pans, platter storage, utensil pullouts, a double trash pullout (always a must), and even a concealed paper towel holder to keep countertops clean.
Panel-ready appliances allow everything to blend seamlessly, and yes — there’s even an ice maker tucked away that you’d never know was there. This kitchen is layered, efficient, and timeless — exactly what we aim for in every new construction kitchen design.

Dining Room
The dining room is the only dedicated dining space in the home, so we knew it needed to make an impact while still feeling livable. Reclaimed beam passageways frame each entry point into the room, creating strong architectural moments that immediately draw you in.
The entire space is wrapped in stone, which brings warmth and texture, while layered wood tones — from the dining table to the built-in buffet — add depth and richness. A modern light fixture keeps the space from feeling too traditional and adds just the right amount of contrast.
One of our favorite features is the built-in sideboard, designed to resemble an apothecary table and provide ample storage for dishes, linens, and entertaining essentials. Flanked by sconces and topped with artwork, it’s both functional and beautiful. This room feels cozy, elevated, and ready for everything from everyday meals to holiday gatherings.

Scullery
Tucked just behind the kitchen, the scullery is an absolute workhorse — and one of our favorite hidden gems in the home. Designed to support entertaining and everyday life, this space offers ample pantry storage and a dedicated prep area.
Locker-style pantry cabinets with cutout doors provide both function and visual interest, while v-groove paneled walls add charm and texture. A custom plate rack, oven, hidden dishwasher, and sink with unlaquered brass plumbing make this space incredibly practical.
And then there are the red floral block print café curtains — one of those joyful details that brings personality and softness to a hardworking room. This is where the mess can happen, so the main kitchen can always shine.
