The Lookout Project Reveal

Updated: Oct 16

When you’re both the designer and the client, the vision starts long before the foundation is poured. The Lookout was designed from the ground up by our team at Kelsey Leigh Design Co. as a showcase home for the Spring 2025 Parade of Homes with builder McGregor Homes. Sitting high on a nearly ¾ acre lot in east Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, this 5,115 square-foot, tri-level residence blends modern cottage charm with intentional, family-friendly design.

From the very beginning, our goal was to create a home that felt grand in scale, yet warm and cozy in spirit. Every detail from the custom cabinetry and curated lighting to the layered wood tones and earthy finishes was chosen to reflect that balance. The result is a home that feels collected, lived-in, and quietly luxurious, with moments of surprise and delight tucked into every corner.

I'd love to take you room by room through our latest project – The Lookout!

The Entry

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking into a home and instantly sensing the tone of the design, and The Lookout makes a statement from the start!

The stone wall brings in that natural texture we love so much, grounding the space and giving it a sense of quiet luxury. But one of the most fun elements we’ve been playing with lately? Repetitive lighting. It’s simple, sculptural, and adds rhythm to the space in such a beautiful way. Think of it like jewelry for your home — purposeful and full of personality. We paired this lighting trend with repeating wood beams between, and I love the final result!

Living Room

Want to know how The Lookout got its name? It all started with the view — the one you see through those expansive living room windows. Peaceful, elevated, and rooted in nature, it perfectly captures the spirit of this home and inspired everything from the architecture to the interiors.

Design-wise, the living room is filled with thoughtful, layered moments. A floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace anchors the space, while exposed beams draw the eye upward and add a sense of structure and rhythm. On either side of the fireplace, custom built-in cabinetry gives the illusion of vintage finds—but they were designed to look like found vintage pieces but custom-built to appear as if they've always belonged.

A custom rust-hued plaid sofa was one of the first pieces selected and a defining detail of the entire home. It’s warm, unexpected, and just the right amount of bold. Not to mention, plaid prints have come to be a KLD design staple!

Almost all the furniture and decor in this space came from our own shop, Heritage House, so if something catches your eye, there’s a good chance you can bring it home, too. Since the plaid sofa is custom made, it's not listed online, but you're welcome to call up to our shop ((405) 657-7998) to order directly! This may even be a great time to set up a free one-hour consult with one of our Heritage House furnishing designers. ;)

Warm modern kitchen with fully tiled wall splash, custom wood cabinetry, and integrated range hood designed by Kelsey Leigh Design Co.

The Kitchen

In the kitchen, warmth and texture take center stage. At first glance, the earthy palette and layered materials set a grounded, inviting tone, but the real showstopper is the fully tiled wall splash and custom range hood. Extending tile from countertop to ceiling, we created a seamless moment that feels both modern and rooted in old-world craftsmanship. It’s a detail that elevates the entire space and quietly steals the spotlight.

Custom cabinetry in a warm, mid-tone stain adds depth without overwhelming the room. The finish, a warm, medium brown, feels both timeless and entirely of-the-moment—right in line with the trend toward 90s-inspired oak tones making a major comeback.

Also, please take note: you will find no canned lights here! We've instead opted for more artful globe flush mounts. I was very intentional with my lighting selections throughout the entire house, but the pairing of these with the nautical inspired island pendants and darling, pleated shade sconces that were hung on the cabinetry towers is a favorite combo!

Elegant dining room with Roman clay plaster walls, oversized tapestry art, and layered textures in a modern cottage-style home.

The Dining Room

Directly off the kitchen sits the dining room. This space delivers just the right amount of mood, with rich textures, layered materials, and a soft elegance. The walls are finished in a velvety Portola plaster that adds depth and dimension you truly have to see in person.

One of our favorite styling moments? The oversized tapestry. It might be one of the coolest pieces we’ve sourced lately. Bold, layered, and bonus: it can double as a rug! That’s the kind of unexpected versatility we love to bring into our designs.

Color-drenched pantry in Sherwin-Williams Stamped Concrete with sink skirt, checkered tile and bead board walls and cabinetry.

The Pantry

The pantry might be one of the most charming spaces in the home. Painted in Sherwin-Williams Stamped Concrete, the walls, cabinetry, and trim are all color-drenched in a soft, feminine gray — a perfect complement to the home’s warmer, more rustic notes. Cutesy details like a striped sink skirt, red-and-white checkered tile flooring, and bead board walls & cabinet doors elevated this tiny (yet functional!) space.

Curious about the other paints and wood stains used throughout The Lookout Project? I've created a Paint & Stain Guide listing the exact paint colors and wood stains we used throughout the home, including the chocolate-y brown study paint, our most used white, and the main bathroom vanity stain. This digital PDF includes our full room-by-room paint and stain selections, so you can easily bring the same warm, rustic modern look into your own home.

Serene primary bedroom with linen slipcover bed, gingham pillows, layered bedding, and reading nook featuring Crosby lamp by Alora Mood.

The Main Bedroom

The main bedroom is all about layered comfort and lived-in beauty. Designed to feel like a true retreat, the space leans into soft textures, thoughtful styling, and a cozy palette pulled from the surrounding landscape. Large windows frame views of the treetops outside, allowing light pour in throughout the day and drench the beautiful, layered furnishing within.

At the center of the room is a tan-colored linen slipcover bed — understated and timeless. The bedding is layered with chocolate, oak and blue-gray tones, accented with brown gingham pillows that add just the right amount of pattern and charm. It’s an effortlessly styled bed that feels both elevated and approachable.

Tucked into the corner is a quiet reading nook featuring the Crosby Table Lamp from Kelsey’s lighting collection with Alora Mood — a subtle but meaningful personal touch. With its sculptural umbrella silhouette and soft glow, it’s the kind of detail that makes the cozy vignette feel even more special.

Spa-inspired main bathroom with dark wood double vanity, marble skirt sinks, and arched mirrors.

The main bathroom strikes the perfect balance between high-end function and classic charm. At the heart of the space is a custom dark-stained double vanity with bun feet—an unexpected, furniture-style detail that adds warmth and a sense of permanence. Each side is topped with a skirt-front marble sink, giving the space a collected, European-inspired feel.

Above the vanity, arched wood and brass mirrors are mounted on brackets alongside the sweetest pleated shade sconces, creating a layered and architectural moment that feels both tailored and soft.

The fully tiled back wall behind the mirrors adds subtle texture and sets the tone for the rest of the room—elevated, organic, and just the right amount of bold.

On the opposing, fully-tiled wall, a massive double-sided shower offers spa-level functionality, while a standalone tub sits nearby, inviting slow mornings and long soaks. Altogether, the materials and finishes create a space that’s indulgent and luxurious.

Moody home office painted in Sherwin-Williams Java with built-in cabinetry and curated lighting in The Lookout project by Kelsey Leigh.

If there’s a single room that takes a more daring turn, it’s the study. Drenched in Sherwin-Williams Java, the walls, trim, and fireplace surround are a deep, masculine chocolate-y brown that feels rich, cozy, and just a little dramatic. It’s a study that feels as much like a refuge as a workspace, proving you can go bold without sacrificing warmth.
